United States Company History

 

The American Kawasaki Motorcycle Corporation was founded in the 1960s, following in the footsteps of its Japanese-based parent company, which has a history stemming back to the late 1800s. The American founders used an old Chicago meatpacking warehouse as their new headquarters which let them get a firm grip on the United States motorcycle market.

 

Their dogged dedication to success combined with the high-quality parts produced by their Chicago factory allowed the American Kawasaki Motorcycle Corporation to find success. Their initial offering was the Omega brand of two-stroke engine motorcycles. This was swiftly followed by the Samurai and Avenger models, which were specifically designed to suit the American public’s thirst for heavy-duty and potent bikes.

 

Industry Pioneers

 

1969 saw Kawasaki release their Mach III superbike, which soon made them a leader in the superbike market. The Z1 motorcycle with its four-stroke engine and elegant, sleek frame came out in 1973, making the company stand out even more.

 

Thanks to these and other successes, Kawasaki was able to create a unified distribution network across the United States that allowed them to offer superior customer service and dealer support.

 

Expansion Into Other Markets

 

The American Kawasaki Motorcycle Corporation didn’t stop at superbikes and motorcycles, however. They entered the burgeoning personal watercraft market in the mid-1970s, establishing themselves as a leading producer of both land and marine transport. In 1981, their first three-wheeled ATV rolled off assembly lines, and this was swiftly followed in 1985 with the more stable and secure four-wheeled ATV.
